Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities Legal Advocacy Project (PPDLAP) The Urban Justice Center is pleased to announce a new initiative of the Mental Health Project (MHP). MHP has launched its Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities Legal Advocacy Project (PPDLAP) funded by the Commission on Quality Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities. The mission of PPDLAP is to provide free expert representation, information, and advice to parents with psychiatric disabilities in Family Court, primarily in abuse and neglect, and termination proceedings. The project will serve New York City, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties.
In addition to direct legal representation in Family Court, PPDLAP will provide an array of technical assistance for all stakeholders, including publishing a Family Court Handbook for parents and non-lawyers, hosting professional trainings on representing parents with psychiatric disabilities in Family Court, establishing a website, and engaging in community outreach programs.
Please forward this information to all families and communities that you serve. We look forward to working with you and serving disabled persons. Parents may contact the Mental Health Project and PPDLAP at 1-877-MHPLAW1 or1-877-647-5291 and press 5.

Manhattan Multicultural Youth Summer Program 2008 brings together teens of different cultures, ethnicities, and faiths to provide opportunities to engage with one another and create an environment where people can share, respect, and value cultural differences.
Through exposure to UN activities students will become more globally minded. Ultimately, the goal is to create a shift in perspective from one of unawareness or preconceived notions, to
one marked by an understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the rich diversity that different backgrounds bring to the world.
The Summer Youth Program increases intercultural awareness that can create lifelong respect for other cultures, thereby reducing racial, religious, and intercultural tension. Through exposure to people of a diverse range of backgrounds, teens will gain a greater appreciation and understanding of one another’s difference and similarities.
