Are you a parent at a NYC school identified for closure, co-location, or re-siting this year?  AQE and the Office of the Public Advocate are looking for your input!

Please take our brief, anonymous survey to identify how well parents were engaged and informed during the decision-making process regarding the proposed changes to schools that were affected by closure, co-location or re-siting.

The schools identified for closure include the nineteen schools challenged in the recent court case, over thirty schools affected by co-location (Putting two or more schools inside of one building), and schools slated for re-siting (relocation of schools from their current location into another school building).

The survey will help us hear from parents and propose further reforms to the process, to make sure parents are heard in the decisions that affect their children's future. Let's work together to make the difference.

The survey is available in English HERE.    It is available in Spanish HERE.

LEGAL & ADVOCACY INFORMATION

Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities Legal Advocacy Project (PPDLAP) The Urban Justice Center is pleased to announce a new initiative of the Mental Health Project (MHP).  MHP has launched its Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities Legal Advocacy Project (PPDLAP) funded by the Commission on Quality Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities.  The mission of PPDLAP is to provide free expert representation, information, and advice to parents with psychiatric disabilities in Family Court, primarily in abuse and neglect, and termination proceedings.  The project will serve New York City, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties.

Please forward this information to all families and communities that you serve. We look forward to working with you and serving disabled persons. Parents may contact the Mental Health Project and PPDLAP at 1-877-MHPLAW1 or1-877-647-5291 and press 5.
